Proposed Subspecialty of Paediatric Cardiology (PC) - Open consultation

Consultation Period: 14 February to 13 May, 2024

To:  All Fellows, Members and Associates of the Hong Kong College of Paediatricians

Please read this IMPORTANT announcement about the application for accreditation of the proposed Subspecialty of Paediatric Cardiology (PC).

As you are no doubt aware, our College is responsible for ensuring the standards and progress of paediatric subspecialty development in Hong Kong.  In order to ensure that we maintain the highest standards possible for any subspecialty accredited by our College, we strictly follow all pre-requisite criteria set by the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine and our College.  The relevant application procedures are available on our College’s website (http://www.paediatrician.org.hk) under the section on “Subspecialties”. So far, seven paediatric subspecialty groups have applied for accreditation and have become accredited subspecialties under our College, i.e., Paediatric Immunology and Infectious Diseases (PIAID), Developmental-Behavioural Paediatrics (DBP), Paediatric Neurology (PN), Paediatric Respiratory Medicine (PRM), Paediatric Endocrinology (PE), Genetic & Genomics (Paediatrics) and Paediatric Haematology and Oncology (PHO).

We now announce that our College has received an application for accreditation of the proposed Subspecialty of Paediatric Cardiology (PC). In order to facilitate open consultation on the accreditation of Paediatric Cardiology as a paediatric subspecialty, our College has uploaded the application documents (i.e., application forms, proposed training programme, and supporting letters from external referees) to our College website for your information and review. Please follow the link below to access the section on the proposed Subspecialty of Paediatric Cardiology (PC)

A full set of the documents is also kept at the College Secretariat at Room 801, Hong Kong Academy of Medicine Jockey Club Building and interested Fellows can request to examine them during office hours from Monday to Friday.

As part of the open consultation process, ALL Fellows, Members and Associates are encouraged to send us any comments on this application.  This is an important step in the future development of paediatric services and may substantially affect current paediatric practice and services in both private and public sectors throughout Hong Kong.

Please send in your comments on this application on or before 13 May 2024 (Monday). Our College will determine whether to proceed with the formal accreditation process based on the initial evaluation by the Committee for Subspecialty Boards and any comments from this open consultation process.

Announcements

Dear Colleagues,

I am sending you the e-blast notification of Category A CME activities of the month of February.

Cancellation of dual capture requirement for virtual CME activities more than one hour

The College has cancelled the dual attendance capture requirement for Online CME activities of more than one hour duration in the CME guidelines of 2023 - 2025.

From now on, all CME activities, virtual or physical, will only need one record of attendance for the CME credits to be granted, regardless of duration.

The College would appreciate the attention of all fellows and event organizers.

Do you know your CME requirement?

We often remember we need to have 90 CME points for a three-year CME cycle. Some of us may think that it is all that is required.

In fact, a fellow is required to accrue 30 points from Category A activities, namely the local, regional, and international educational activities every three years. We are also required to accumulate 15 active CME points from any category. Active points are gained by giving talks, doing quizzes from journals, self-study and teaching etc. For some categories there is a maximum number of points you can gain each cycle.

If you want to know more, please visit the CME Guidelines page.

(The information below is abstracted from the event organizers on 29 January 2024. Members and fellows are reminded to contact the enquiries listed below for last-minute alternations. You may also login to our College website to check for the up-to-date version.)
