Hong Kong Neonatal Resuscitation Program (HK-NRP)

The Hong Kong Neonatal Resuscitation Program (HK-NRP) is jointly organized by the Hong Kong College of Paediatricians, Hong Kong College of Paediatric Nursing, Hong Kong College of Midwives, Hong Kong Association of Neonatal Medicine and the Hong Kong Paediatric Nurses Association.  It is a simulation-based training adopted from the NRP® of the American Academy of Pediatrics. From August 2018, the HK-NRP is held in the Hong Kong Children’s Hospital Simulation Training Centre.

The Neonatal Resuscitation Program® (NRP®) course conveys an evidence-based approach to care of the newborn at birth and facilitates effective team-based care for healthcare professionals who care for newborns at the time of delivery. NRP utilizes a blended learning approach, which includes online testing, online case-based simulations, and hands-on case-based simulation/debriefing that focus on critical leadership, communication, and team-work skills.

The HK-NRP Provider Course becomes a mandatory training requirement for all new paediatric trainees who join the College on or after 1st July 2013, and they are required to successfully complete the NRP Provider Course within their 3-year Basic Training Period before they are eligible to apply for Membership of the HK College of Paediatricians.

Those who have successfully completed the cognitive and skills evaluations in accordance with the NRP Curriculum will be issued a Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Provider Card from the American Academy of Pediatrics. It is the first and only NRP Provider Card issued outside the U.S. by the American Academy of Pediatrics.

The trainers are NRP Trainers recognized by the AAP and they are senior neonatologists and neonatal nurses from various hospitals.
