MRCPCH Applied Knowledge in Practice (previously Part II) Examination, 15 January 2014 (Wednesday) Dear Associates, Please be informed that the next MRCPCH Applied Knowledge in Practice Examination will be held in Hong Kong on 15th January 2014.  Candidates wishing to sit the above MRCPCH examination in Hong Kong must apply both online using the RCPCH website ( https://www.rcpch.ac.uk/user ) AND submit paper applications to our College.  Please study carefully the details of application as outlined in the exam circular. Application period4 November 2013 - 29 November 2013 Examination FeeHK$8,400 Payment should be made payable to Hong Kong College of Paediatricians. Application Form C is available for downloading. * Due to the recent change in examination rules, candidates are eligible to sit the MRCPCH written exams in any order, and permitted to take the Applied Knowledge in Practice Exam as their first MRCPCH written exam. Simulation Conference and Instructor Course

To All Fellows and Members Please be informed that the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine has formed a Simulation Training Center (named as Hong Kong Jockey Club Innovative Learning Centre for Medicine – ILCM in the email below). It has entered a collaborative agreement with the Center for Medical Simulation at Harvard, Boston to run Instructor Courses in Hong Kong and to enable HKAM Fellows to receive 3-months Training Courses in Boston (see item 2 and 3 in the email below). HKAM is now calling for applications from individual Fellows to enroll in the Instructor Courses on 6-7 and 12-13 December 2013 in Hong Kong. The Course fee will be $40000 for individual applications, but reduced to $20000 if supported by Academy Colleges. If you are interested to attend the Courses and wish to have support from our College, please complete the application form and send to our College secretariat with your brief curriculum vitae. Please note that there will be three simulation activities organized by our simulation centre in the coming six months or so. (1) The Simulation Conference and workshops of 10-11 Dec, which is open to individual enrollment. For information and registration, please visit the conference website at: http://hkjcilcm.hk/ (2) There will be two Instructors courses by the Center for Medical Simulation ("CMS"), one in December and one in March next year with 20 participants per course. (3) We will also invite application for CMS Simulation Fellowship in Boston, and the details will be promulgated in due course. HA has agreed to fully sponsor a number of nominations for the CMS instructor courses through the COCs and individual HA Training Centers. In parallel, any HKAM Fellows or Trainees can enroll in the CMS Instructor courses by themselves at a course fee of HK$40,000.  We have disseminated this information via eNews.  Fellows and trainees who wish to enroll for the course will be charged at HK$20,000, if the nominations are supported by Colleges.  I have enclosed herewith the relevant posters and application form for your kind attention and please encourage your Trainees and Fellows to participate in these activities. Dear Associates/Members/Fellows of the Hong Kong College of Paediatricians, Re: Subspecialty of Developmental-Behavioural Paediatrics (DBP) – Invitation for Enrollment of Training Programme The Developmental-Behavioural Paediatrics (DBP) is now recognised as a Paediatric Subspecialty in the Hong Kong College of Paediatricians, it has been registered in the Specialist Register in The Medical Council of Hong Kong since 3 July 2013. To: All Fellows, Members and Associates of the CollegeBelow please find the PALS Course details for your reference Paediatric Advanced Life Support Course (PALS) 2015 The big PALS classes this year are scheduled as follows: Provider Course I – Monday & Tuesday, 14-15 September, 2015 Provider Course II - Wednesday & Thursday, 16-17 September, 2015 Dr. Alfred HuYoung and experienced paediatricians will be teaching these courses. An additional lecture on "post-resuscitation stabilization" will be provided to HA doctors. There will also be small classes in November and December 2015. These courses are now open for registration. Doctors working in HA Paediatric Departments will be sponsored by HAHO. Research Methodology and Grant Writing Skills Training Workshop 2013 To: All Fellows, Members and Associates of the College The College is going to organize a "Research Methodology and Grant Writing Skills Training Workshop" that is designed for paediatric trainees / Fellows who are interested in carrying out research and/or are considering submitting research proposal to the Health and Medical Research Fund (HMRF). This informal and interactive workshop combines expert instructions with practical exercises to take you step-by-step through all the stages required for preparing a research proposal / grant application.  Participantsare expected to prepare his/her draft research proposal for discussion.
