Hong Kong College of Paediatricians

Dear Fellows, Members and Associates,

I am very pleased to announce the first Paediatric Update by the College this year on 2 March 2024 (Saturday) 2 pm at M Ground Lecture Theatre, Queen Elizabeth Hospital, 30 Gascoigne Road, Kowloon. The title is "Rashes in Children".

We have invited five experts to give us talks on different rashes. The talks will be enriched with a lot of illustrated examples. It will be a great refresher, not only for the MRCPCH clinical exam but also for our daily work.

Please refer to the attached poster for details of the speakers and the topics.

I cordially invite you to come and would look forward to seeing you at the event.

Yours sincerely,

S P Wu

Vice President

PALS Course

The PALS Course is for healthcare providers who either direct or participate in the management of respiratory and/or cardiovascular emergencies and cardiopulmonary arrest in paediatric patients.  It is a mandatory training for trainees of the Hong Kong College of Paediatricians.

Blended Learning

From 2021, the Hong Kong Children's Hospital Simulation Training Centre adopted Blended learning for PALS.  It is a combination of eLearning, in which a student completes part of the course in a self-directed manner online, followed by a hands-on session. The hands-on session is completed in person with an AHA Instructor.

HeartCode PALS is the AHA’s blended learning delivery method for the AHA’s PALS Course. HeartCode blended learning delivers quality resuscitation education regardless of where providers are located and gives them more control to complete the course at their own  pace.

The 2020 [PALS] Guidelines HeartCode uses a personalized adaptive algorithm that sets students on the most efficient path to mastery. Students follow a continuously adapting learning path that is personalized by their own inputs: their performance, and their self- reported confidence level related to each probing question. The course content is presented in the form of self-directed learning content, probing questions, and Cognitive Assessment Activities (CAAs).

PALS Learners

  • first study the PALS Provider Manual eBook (https://youtu.be/Vytg80Kt3JI)
  • then complete the online portion of HeartCode PALS and subsequently
  • complete a one day hands-on skills sessions, team based simulation scenarios and individual assessment with an AHA PALS Instructor held in Simulation Training Centre, Hong Kong Children’s Hospital.
