Message from College President - January 2016

Our College was established in 1991 and we shall celebrate our 25th Anniversary in 2016. To understand our destiny, we must learn where we were from, where we are now, so as to decide where we should go. Our past Presidents and Councils have worked hard over the last two and a half decades to establish a solid foundation for us. Our immediate Past President Dr SN Wong and his Council further consolidated the training program to include more accredited subspecialists training. During his Presidency, three more subspecialties, i.e. Developmental Behavioural Paediatrics, Paediatric Neurology and Paediatric Respiratory Medicine, have been accredited, in addition to Paediatric Immunology and Infectious Diseases. The Annual Scientific Meeting was initiated during his first year Presidency to provide opportunities to learn through integrated case presentations and share our research experience. The Young Fellows Subcommittee was established to empower our next generation.

I assumed my 3 year Presidency in December 2015 and look forward to serve our College members with my Council earnestly. We mapped out the core areas for our Council to focus on during our Council Meeting on the 6th January 2016. First we need to enhance the sense of ownership of our College members to make our College strong. Second we have to have better financial security and ensure sustainability. Third we agree to enhance the profile of our College through a concerted and continual effort of engaging our various partners including Hospital Authority, Colleges and Societies both within and outside Hong Kong.

I will engage with our members with regular communications briefing you on news and progress of the above objectives regularly in the coming 3 years.
