The Council met last week and I would wish to brief you on the followings.

We shall hold our 3rd Forum on the 24th September, focusing on how the Hong Kong Children’s Hospital (HKCH) will impact on our training the next generation of pediatricians, with the new service model of hub and spoke.  I anticipate a very fruitful discussion with so many of you who have already registered to come.  Our focus will be on training issues, such as the optimal rotation arrangement between HKCH and regional hospitals for different levels of trainees, the HKCH simulation center, the interface between College and HA/HKCH to ensure continuing improvement of our training program.  Please consider to come despite your tight schedule.

We will organize our 4th Forum early next year in the Spring, focusing on “Review of Training and Assessment (T&A)”.  As you have heard from me earlier that a Working Group on the Review of T&A has been set up by the Council, and we have met twice already.  We discussed the way forward and identified 8 domains that we need to enhance our training, including 1.Hand-over; 2.End-of-Life care; 3.Risk and Conflict management; 4.  Ethics and Law; 5.Teaching; 6.Critical appraisal of evidence; 7.Humanistic qualities and 8.Multi-disciplinary team training for complex scenario.  We also discussed on the “how”, including 1.Supervised learning events (SLE) and 2.Job initiated assessment (JIA).  We have surveyed opinion from the Training Supervisors and the Young Fellows already.  There will be a second round of survey for all members end of this year, before the Spring Forum 2017.  We have heard from young members how to enhance our Humanistic Experience through experiential learning, and lease help us to understand your feeling by completing the survey.

We are now finishing the preparation of our Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) and the 25th Anniversary Celebration on the 3rd & 4th December 2016.  Please mark on your diary and register to come.  During the ASM, we shall empower our young fellows and trainees to present cases and scenarios for their learning to be supervised by their senior (ie. SLE), and to present their research findings. Our guests from Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Taiwan, Macau, Singapore and Malaysia will speak or chair in our ASM.  Our fellows with HKMA members will demonstrate their photographic talents through exhibition of all the 239 submitted photos in silico, and the 32 award-winning photos in hard print.  A renowned doctor-photographer Amy Pang will give us a lecture on the art of photography during lunch on the 3rd December.

We hope through engaging you in different ways our College will become strong and united.  Please come to support your College.
