The PALS Course is for healthcare providers who either direct or participate in the management of respiratory and/or cardiovascular emergencies and cardiopulmonary arrest in paediatric patients. It is a mandatory training for trainees of the Hong Kong College of Paediatricians.
Blended Learning
From 2021, ChildSim adopted Blended learning for PALS. It is a combination of eLearning, in which a student completes part of the course in a self-directed manner online, followed by a hands-on session. The hands-on session is completed in person with an AHA Instructor.
HeartCode PALS is the AHA’s blended learning delivery method for the AHA’s PALS Course. HeartCode blended learning delivers quality resuscitation education regardless of where providers are located and gives them more control to complete the course at their own pace.
The 2020 [PALS] Guidelines HeartCode uses a personalized adaptive algorithm that sets students on the most efficient path to mastery. Students follow a continuously adapting learning path that is personalized by their own inputs: their performance, and their self- reported confidence level related to each probing question. The course content is presented in the form of self-directed learning content, probing questions, and Cognitive Assessment Activities (CAAs).

Accreditation of postgraduate training for paediatricians in Hong Kong is under the care of the College Accreditation Committee. Its terms of reference as stipulated in the Memorandum and Article of the College stated that "its functions shall be that of assessing the suitability of the various units for training purpose and to advise the Council on the training in paediatrics and the development of paediatric subspecialties". It thus follows that duty of the Accreditation Committee includes policy advisory role to the College Council and accreditation of training institutions, training programmes, trainers and trainees on behalf of the College.
Chairman: Dr Winnie Tse
Accreditation Committee Guidelines and Procedures (updated on 5 October 2021)
This is an examination for non-paediatricians who wish to demonstrate paediatric skills after a short period of paediatric training. The DCH Examination consists of a Written examination and a Clinical examination. Successful completion of both parts will lead to the award of two diplomas: DCH (International) and DCH (HK).
(The Examination Committee adopted the same new format for the DCH Clinical Examination in HK from October 2011)
